Homer… it’s not a cartoon character, but it is a place overflowing with character. Places, faces and wide open spaces. Each with a story to tell. Each with an open heart who, choose to give something back to those who visit or linger. When I first arrived here last fall, a wise man said to me, “I don’t know why you came here, but this place will change you.” A curious and deeply intriguing comment in the moment, one I wrote down and has lingered ever since. Has it though? One day I’ll expand upon that. But I don’t see how it can’t.
Forget historical origins for a second just think of the name… Home with a little extra draw at the end. Homer brings a sense of warmth, it’s hard to explain, and no it’s not the long summer days, or Kachemak Bay keeping the area warmer in the winter, it’s a sense of place, a welcoming spirit you see in a stranger waving, a simple hello, or random conversation about today’s catch. It can feel like home...., home for a day, for a summer, for a lifetime.
What I’ve come to appreciate is the many faces and spaces.
A face on the beach.

And more beach.....

Adventures inland.

Long Views.

Vibrant artistry

A fishy way of life.

Floating Mechanicals.

Sharing is caring (and yes they shared the spoon, to each their own).

Hanging around

Humans Best Friend

Hidden Treasures

Natures Peephole

Blaze your own trail

Pondering the theory of relativity, or what is for dinner.

I wake up each morning and tell myself, I can’t wait for whatever happens next. Planned or unplanned each day delivers new gifts.
Anyone that has an idea to stay here for a day, stay two. Talk to strangers, find a quiet place to sit, ponder the great mysteries of the world, go wanderabout, let curiosity be your guide….. you are invited, so come on in..........and who knows,,,,, something here might change you.

Thank you Homer, Alaska for being you! The Last Frontier is a great Frontier!
